Week Twenty Eight

Hi! Well this week has been alright I suppose, but I have been a little bit irritated during the last part of the week. The missionary work was very good though, although not all speak English very well. There is this couple, an English guy and a Hungarian lady, who we taught we gave her a book of Mormon the first visit and had a nice chat with them both, but the next time she came over she had talked to her son and he said that we believe in a different bible. She assumed that the bible that we used wasn't the bible and she was comparing the Hungarian bible with the English bible and the names are pronounced differently and she was like "see different!" she thinks she knows what she is talking about but really she has no idea. Her husband grasped it though he understood; he even read the introduction of the book of Mormon. But we think that she threw out the book of Mormon we gave her because she thought it was something else. no worries though we have a Hungarian couple in the church here and are bringing them to the next appointment we have with them, and hopefully the lady's son will be there also and we will be able to explain things to him also and it will be all butterfly's and baptisms:P we have a zone conference this week on Thursday that I am looking forward to. I’m hoping that all the mail that has been sent to me is there. People kind of annoy me a lot…….. I think what I enjoy most about this area is walking on the beach and looking for some pretty rocks... well i gtg, hope to hear from you. ~Elder Onychuk PS- The church is true, the gospel is true, and if people would just take some time to find out for themselves they would know it also!

Week Twenty-seven

Hey, things are going fine another transfer is over and I have a new companion in Gorleston, his name is Elder Alarcon and he is from Mexico he has been out just under a year and we get along fine. I might have to start learning Portuguese again :P because that’s mostly who he stops. Sounds like your still having a good time, my birthday packages are not here yet sadly but should get them soon. I suppose I am getting better at stopping people but its still not quite there yet. Sorry I didn’t write you last Monday, I didn’t feel like writing anyone really :P just one of those days. gah seems like there is always one spider on me somewhere -flick-... spiders are everywhere here good thing they don’t scare me :) ~Love Elder Onychuk

Week Twenty-five

Hello stranger!!! haha! Things have been going pretty well over here and I have been having a lot of fun. Missionary work is kind of dead in this area, people don’t care at all and hardly anyone stops for us. The most successful 2 days we have had were Wednesday and Thursday, Wednesday we had district meeting then went to Emma and Steven's karate dojo, where they were having a BBQ so we went there and helped out and ended up pretty much teaching a lesson to one of Steven's nephews, he had a lot of questions most of them where not his he would just look up questions to stump a Mormon missionary and read them out to Steven and he asked us a couple of them. He eventually started using some of his own questions such as "If people believe in it so much why do they not live it?" reason being his dad is less active but doesn’t deny the church but doesn’t really want to go back ether, and also Steven had his stumbles also, oh and i suppose his grandpa also he has been divorced twice. So he is really confused about that but what he really needs to do (if he really wants to find out) is read the Book of Mormon and pray about it! But it takes time for everyone. We also found out that there is a less active member that works at the dojo also named Rosie and she has wanted to come back to church! so she is coming next Sunday with Emma! it’s a gold mine in that dojo! I think even one of their kick boxers Alfie is interested also. he is the same age as Stevens nephew (16) and was listening to us talk to Conner (Stevens nephew) almost the whole time. That was a supper good day, and all we had to do was sit around at the dojo. on Thursday we had a multi faith fair at the jams Paget hospital, in the chapel area, there where religions that I have never heard of like Bajah's(or something like that) Qu- ehkers(pronunciation otherwise I probably would have spelt Quakers...). There were also wika's (witches... I know right?) Catholics (of course) Christian science, Islamic, and Muslims. It was pretty interesting but being in there gave me and Elder Fisher a head ache. we handed out about 5-7 books of Mormon and had some interesting conversations... it was pretty fun. oh and we had one of our potential investigators come to it, and another potential that I thought where we were going to meet before but it was actually that day at the library, she came and we gave her a book of Mormon so that was a miracle :P. the funnest thing we have been doing is Kick Boxing on Tuesdays 7-8 and Thursdays also. Non-contact of course :D its sooo much fun and a great work out, we get to go free because its Steven and Emma's Dojo haha. Elder Fisher and I are going to become professional kick boxers!! haha. other than all the cool stuff I have been getting a little better at stopping people and my studies have been improving I think, I do have some things to work on but I am not going to list them out ;) oh we also watched the opening ceremonies for the Olympics and that was cool! My favorite part (probably everyone’s favorite) was Mr. Bean!!! Oh my goodness it was just too funny when you saw him playing that key board and stuff! If you haven’t watched it you should!! But I have no doubt that you have. I can just imagine how hard Jerri and the kids were laughing! It was just too good! ~Elder Onychuk!

Week Twenty-four

Hey! ahh it’s so satisfying to type on a keyboard... anyway... I got a postcard from Kaden so I’m going to write him back today. I am pretty far from the Olympic Games so its not extra busy here. It is very busy in great Yarmouth. It is a touristy place here although no one likes to talk to missionaries; in fact they can’t even be bothered to answer simple questions. People keep on saying no after you attempt to talk to them even saying “no” to "have a good day".... it’s pretty slow here. But I love all the seagulls and the sea. Jerri sent a lot of pictures and blog stuff, it was neat to see Karlyn, Ben, Isaac and Emma. They are already very different looking. I didn’t really realize how sporty the family is! I had interviews with the new mission president Pres. Jordon. He is a nice guy. I am really hoping to improve this week, I didn’t do that good this week, but I am going to start stopping people and not care about what happens after (I’ll start caring after I get comfortable with stopping :P). The weather here is finally starting to warm up, it has been raining and thundering a lot the past week. Hope to hear from you next week so tah tah for now! ~Elder Onychuk

Week Twenty-two

HI! How’s life? Well I think I’ll tell you my dodgiest mission story as of late. So there was a zone leader correlation meeting where all the district, trainers, and follow up trainers were invited. We were going to wake up early to catch a bus to Norwich but the zone leaders phoned us and said we could just come over and spend the night. So we waited for the bus for 20 minutes but we accidently missed the bus we were going to take. We desperately took the next bus to the station where the other one would stop but to no avail; we were two minutes late for it! So we waited another 30 minutes and took the next bus. We arrived in Norwich at 9:45 and called the zone leaders, they asked us if we knew where there flat was but we didn’t and the told us to walk to the forum (a library). We walked up the road through the dodgiest part of town you know the street with all the strip clubs and normal clubs. Although, can you call clubs normal? anyways... ya I didn’t know they were strip clubs and when we finally got by all the sketchy bouncers and the flirty girls (they were flirting with the bouncers not us.... unfortunately in some cases, Hallelujah in others... some of the girls weren’t too pretty let’s just leave it at that) and Elder Fisher informed me that we past about 5 of them haha. Good old missionary tales. Then we waited at marks and spencer’s (a food store) and a homeless guy asked us for some spare change. Then after that we finally got picked up/saved up by the other missionaries. Yay! soooooooooooooooooooooo yep that is my exciting story for the week, Look forward for some more!!! Maybe I’ll talk about missionary work next time who knows ;P anyways Love you long time !!!! -Your friendly neighborhood Sp-i-.... Missionary.... Elder Onychuk!!! woot Cheeers!!! Haaaaaaaaaa haaaaaaaaa!!! ~CLAPPING~ "man he is so fantastic at spelling English." :O "I am going to name my children after him!!!" "I know right he is sooooooo humble not to mention handsome!" ;D....... Love from birthday boy of 23 years! And thanks for all the birthday wishes!

Week Twenty-one

Hello! Everything is going well in Gorleston now and it’s really exciting to be in a new area. On transfer day I had a fever (it wasn’t very pleasent and it took about 5 hours to get home. We had to wait at Diss for one hour or so because the train lines in between Norwitch and Diss were broken. The night before I couldn’t sleep well at all and maybe only got two hours of sleep. The first night in Gorleston was also pretty bad; you know how my fevers are (for those who don’t know I always get pretty delusional). I had a bad “trip” and thought that I was supposed to put my blanket on myself 1000 times or something silly like that and I didn’t know how I was ever going to do it. I was scared and upset almost to the point of tears. I wanted to wake up my companion and explain my ‘dilemma’ but I didn’t want to wake him up so I ended up saying a prayer and made my bed and got in and somehow got to sleep. I wonder what Heavenly Father thought when he heard that prayer – “Glad We got this kid born in the church, couldn’t stand it if I had to listen to his prayers after he was taking some bad drugs” :P I know He wouldn’t say that but that’s what I would say. Haha. But ya, the day after there was a funeral of someone in the ward so we went to that, it was nice to hear the funny stories of that man’s life. On Saturday we had a baptism which was cool, it seems that I swoop in and take the credit all the time :P Emma is her name and she is a really nice lady. She was just married to her husband Steven on Monday that week. She is really studious; Elder Fisher would give her what they were going to teach her next and she would actually study it and know the material by the time they came for her next lesson. We also met with a really nice man named Derik (who is in his 50’s I think) and is really interested in the church. He walked up to Elders Fisher and Ward (a few days before transfers) and said you’re not going to convert me I just want to know what your church is about. Then at the end of the lesson we had with him he asked “now if I was to decide to join this church what would be the procedure?” or something to that extent. So he looks really good, we hope to see him as soon as he get some of his business in order. Well here are some pictures of you all. Love you! -Elder Onychuk
